ACCOUNTABILITY

The purpose of this accountability system is to provide a safe, accurate, and efficient method of keeping track of all personnel during any emergency incident.

The Accountability System uses helmet shields, name tags, PASSPORTS, status boards, and make-up kits to account for and identify companies and individuals on the incident scene.  All personnel are responsible for ensuring that the helmet shields and PASSPORTS always remain current (up-to-the-minute) and intact.

 HELMET SHIELDS

Each helmet shall be equipped with magnetic strips permanently attached to both sides of the helmet.  A second magnetic strip with a reflective helmet shield (E-14, L-2, etc.) shall be placed over the first strip.  Personnel shall use only that helmet shield which shows their present assignment.  Personnel assigned to brush, utility, or other vehicles housed at the same station shall retain identity of that company's helmet shield.  If personnel leave assigned apparatus due to relief, leave, or other reason, the helmet shields stay with the apparatus.

NAME TAGS  / ICON

All personnel shall be issued four (4) plastic nametags with velcro backing which should contain the last name and first initial of each firefighter or officer.  The Company Officer shall keep a nametag of each firefighter assigned to them in a readily available location at the station should a full set of nametags be lost or damaged.

The nametag shall be placed on the PASSPORT of the unit that the firefighter or officer is currently assigned to ride.  Personnel leaving a unit shall remove their nametag from the unit PASSPORT and place it under the brim of the helmet with their spare nametags.  Regional Team members for both the Haz-Mat and Technical Rescue Teams shall be provided with name tags for their response to incidents.

The nametags shall be color-coded as follows:

Chief Officers:

Company Officers:

Firefighter/PM:
