EMS Training Topic 3

Airway Adjunct / Ventilation

  

The Candidate shall be able to identify the need for airway management. From this assessment the candidate should be able to pick and choose the proper adjunct or equipment needed with the proper oxygen.

Performance Objectives: The candidate shall be given a random patient care scenario in which the candidate shall be able to establish and maintain an airway.

Ø Be able to demonstrate the head tilt, chin lift and jaw thrust.

 

Ø Relate the mechanism of injury to opening the airway.

 

Ø Be able to demonstrate the techniques of suction.

 

Ø Be able to demonstrate with a pocket mask and BVM with ventilations.

 

Ø Be able to demonstrate the proper techniques for measuring and inserting and oral or nasal Airway

.

Ø Be able to demonstrate the proper use of nasal cannulas and non-rebreather mask and their flow rates.
